Small to modest hikes in social sector schemes

The Centre has increased the overall allocation for the education ministry by 6.4%, with ₹73,008 crore for school education and ₹47,619 crore for higher education. The PMSHRI scheme has been allocated ₹4,000 crore to develop 15,000 schools for quality education. The mid-day meal scheme also received a hike to ₹11,600 crore. The PM STARS project saw an increase from ₹800 crore to ₹1,250 crore. The budget estimate for social justice and empowerment increased by 1.2%, with a focus on transgender welfare and mechanisation of sewerage under the NAMASTE scheme. The tribal affairs ministry received a 4.3% increase, with ₹107.52 crore allocated for promoting tribal products in the northeastern region.

BRS Leader Arrested for Forgery

Hyderabad police on Tuesday arrested the BRS leader Aravind Alishetty on allegations of cheating and forgery. Central Crime Station (CCS) officials arrested him from his residence in Hyderabad.  As per reports, Alishetty has duped a company of Rs 5 crore by allegedly forging the signatures of important leaders of the previous BRS government.
