One person dead after vehicle, pedestrian crash in Benton Harbor By: Maura Johnson BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – A pedestrian has died following a vehicle crash Monday afternoon, the Benton Charter Township Police Department reported. At 11:25 a.m., officers were called to the area of Cinema Way and Orchard Crossing in Benton Harbor for reports of a personal injury crash. At the scene, officers found the victim, a 73-year-old Benton Township resident, laying unconscious in the road. After using all life-saving efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Upon investigating, police learned that the collision happened when the victim was trying to cross Orchard Crossing as a vehicle was turning onto Orchard Crossing.

Plymouth student recognized at Statehouse for NBA Rising Star honor By: Maura Johnson Plymouth native Lindsey Weldon was recently honored at the Statehouse for being named an Indianapolis NBA Rising Star All-Star. State Representative Jack Jordan honored Weldon with House Resolution 12 for her accomplishment. “Rising Stars” are high school seniors who show leadership in their community and schools, Jordan said. Weldon is one of 21 students chosen to receive a $2,100 scholarship. Lindsey s community involvement and drive is a reflection of her compassion and willingness to help others, Jordan said. The values she has demonstrated through her dedication to athletics and service will help open up many doors and opportunities, and she has a bright future ahead of her.
