Six schools in Olympia and Tumwater are named for those who have indeed laid those strong foundations. Not all are without their faults, but learning about those faults can teach people what to avoid when moving forward.
Development of Tumwater Falls Park's trails and attractions we love today were spurred by the Seattle World's Fair in 1962. Learn the Park's history here.
Beer history in Olympia started with Leopold Schmidt in 1896. He formed the Olympia Brewing Company in 1902. Peter G. Schmidt continued the family's legacy.
Even before Olympia was officially named, Michael Simmons took the helm as its first postmaster. The appointment began a long succession of postmasters, which started for him when this area was Oregon Territory, also when it became Thurston County and then Washington Territory.
