A state agency will be reimbursing Knox County a significant amount of money for a much-needed bridge rehabilitation project in the near future. Last month, the Illinois Commerce Commission authorized the use of $2.5M from the Multi-Modal Transportation Bond Fund (MMTBF), a part of Governor JB Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois Capital Bill, to assist with the rehabilitation of a grade separation structure near Galesburg. The Knox County Highway Department will perform heavy rehab work on the County 10 bridge that carries traffic over the BNSF rail yard and tracks. There will be no structural footprint changes to the bridge. The estimated cost for the project will be $2,778,000. The MMTBF will be utilized to reimburse the County an amount that is not to exceed $2,500,000.
