Empty desks, full mail-boxes, and porters watering the flowers. Berlin’s offices lie dormant. People are working from home, where a laptop, WiFi and a VPN connection play vital roles.
The new requirement, for companies to have staff work from home, has been in effect since Wednesday. And, since Wednesday, those exempt from the stipulation, working at insurance companies, architectural offices, call centres and in open-plan offices can expect surprise visits.
The State Office for Occupational Safety and Health (LAGetSi) is to inspect 80 companies a week on behalf of, Labour Senator, Elke Breitenbach (59, Linke).
