Northbrook board takes further steps toward sustainability

Drawing comparison to such significant village legislation as its Master Stormwater Management Plan and the more recent Affordable Housing Plan, Northbrook trustees on Tuesday took a step toward implementing a Climate Action Plan.
In a public hearing, citizens and trustees generally praised the 186-page report that capped a nearly yearlong effort.
Northbrook Development & Planning Services director Michaela Kohlstedt headed a 40-strong contingent of village staff and board members principally trustees Bob Israel and Heather Ross and various village entities, guided by sustainability consultant paleBLUEdot of Minnesota, whose co-founder, Ted Redmond, spoke at the hearing.

Lou Malnati s is consolidating its properties in Buffalo Grove in the spring, which includes moving its corporate headquarters out of Northbrook.
The 50-year-old pizza giant is moving to 900-950 Busch Parkway and intends to use the space for a national e-commerce manufacturing plant and fulfillment center, as well as a home office.
Its headquarters currently is in Northbrook at 3685 Woodhead Drive. It has operated there since November 2003, and had a previous Northbrook office on Anthony Trail after moving from Lincolnwood, where it opened in 1971.

Certainly it is in its infancy, but Kathryn Ciesla established an inclusive tone in her first full meeting Tuesday as Northbrook Village president.
Perhaps unavoidable, as she was joined in the remote meeting by new trustee and Nigeria native Joy Ebhomielen, the first African-American to serve in that post for Northbrook.
First up, a Girl Scout Troop from Wood Oaks Junior High delivered the Pledge of Allegiance.
