HAYWARD, CA The family of Michaela Garecht waited 32 years for justice, but a man has finally been charged with the kidnapping and murder of the 9-year-old girl.
David Misch, 59, is charged with murder with special circumstances. He has been in prison since 1989 for a Hayward murder and is currently in Santa Rita Jail awaiting trial for a 1986 cold-case double homicide in Fremont. THE BUZZ NEWSOM’S NOT GETTING A BREAK 2020 is not letting up, right down to the final weeks.
Whether it’s an extended lockdown (brace yourselves for that) or a new Covid-19 strain, Gov. Gavin Newsom has had to deliver some tough news again this week tempered by the vaccine deliveries, which have begun around California.
THE BIG (BAD) NEWS Newsom said the state will likely extend stay-at-home orders as coronavirus cases continue to soar, as POLITICO’s Jeremy B. White reported. That’s as most of the state has locked down again under a directive shutting regions where intensive care unit capacity dips below 15 percent which now covers where 98 percent of California s population lives.

Convicted Killer Charged In 32-Year-Old Cold-Case Kidnapping and Murder of 9-Year-Old in the East Bay
Gen Xers and older Millennials who grew up in the Bay Area and their parents may remember 1988 as a scary time to be a kid, with multiple child disappearances making headlines within a few months. One of those was the disappearance of nine-year-old Michaela Garecht, who was grabbed in a supermarket parking lot in Hayward a few days before Thanksgiving, never to be seen again.
Now, 32 years on, investigators in the East Bay say they ve identified a suspect, and it s a man who s been in prison for another Hayward murder since 1989, and who s been charged in a double murder of two women in 1986 in Fremont. His name is David Misch, he s now 59 years old, and, as KRON4 reports, he is being arraigned in Alameda County court on Tuesday on Garecht s kidnapping and murder.
