Here’s what Houstonians are saying on social media:
Ok so we lowered our a/c and kept the minimum usage of electricity all day long because we feel so lucky to have it! But why downtown Houston empty office buildings lit up like nothing is happening? pic.twitter.com/mQ1Vbw6uZB anna veselova (@bravolesfilles) February 16, 2021
Hey @ERCOT ISO can we not sacrifice these lit up empty office buildings in downtown #houston and restore a residential section of the grid instead? People are literally freezing inside their homes all over the city pic.twitter.com/9NMUECOq4N Kim (@kimisnotamused) February 16, 2021

The big banks have entrenched their dominance by exploiting the governmentâs COVID-19 emergency funding support to subsidise record low rates and offer cash handouts worth thousands of dollars to refinancing customers.
Challenger banks dependent on international securitisation markets say this is grossly unfair and have called on the government to reform the central bankâs Term Funding Facility to provide a more level playing field between smaller banks and the big four lenders. The big four banks are exploiting COVID-19 emergency support to fund cash handouts for borrowers at the expense of banking competition, challenger banks have argued. Â
A FUNDRAISER has been launched to help an 82-year-old whose house was ransacked by a ‘cowardly’ burglar - whilst she was inside. Doris Copeland, who lives in Rhyl, dozed off late Friday afternoon on December 18. She woke up to find her handbag had been moved before hearing the intruder rummaging through her belongings. The pensioner rang her daughter Caroline Jones. Caroline and the police rushed over to the house, but the cruel thief had already fled and had made off with treasured items including a sapphire and diamond pendant, a gold necklace with a pendant, four or five pairs of earrings, Doris’ wedding ring and £250 in cash.
