Chicopee receives approvals to open COVID vaccination site but is waiting for doses
Updated Feb 21, 2021;
CHICOPEE – After operating a COVID-19 testing site for nearly two months, city officials now have received approvals to open a vaccine site.
The site received final approval earlier this week to operate at the lower level of the RiverMills Senior Center, but the only problem is the city still does not have any doses of the vaccine to administer, Mayor John L. Vieau said.
“We have requested 500 doses per week. We have been told we will be lucky to get 100 a week,” Vieau said. “We will fight for the doses.”

CHICOPEE – After setting up a successful testing site for COVID-19, city officials are now going a step further and plan to open a vaccination site.
The city is working to create a vaccination site in the RiverMills Senior Center on West Main Street, which is also the location of the drive-through testing site, Mayor John L. Vieau said.
The doctor for the city is scheduled to inspect the site on Wednesday. If he is comfortable with the plan, the city will forward an application to the state to become a testing site, Vieau said.
Winter weather has forced the postponement of the City of Springfi9eld's COVID testing at the Eastfield Mall location Monday and Tuesday. But, the City of Chicopee is operating its testing clinici at the River Mills Senior Center Monday despite the storm.
