Helias got its revenge. Last season, the Jefferson City Jays beat the Helias Crusaders 65-63 to win the Class 6 District 9 championship. Jefferson City beat Helias 74-53 last time the teams played Feb. 4 in Central Missouri Activities Conference play. But the No. 3 seed Crusaders were the ones celebrating Friday when they beat the No. 4 seed Jays 61-44 to win the Class 5 District 7 championship.
Jordan Martin had bookend 10-point quarters Wednesday to lead the No. 4-seeded Jefferson City Jays to a 66-54 upset win against the top-seeded Ruskin Eagles in the Class 5 District 7 semifinals.
The Capital City Cavaliers, Jefferson City Jays and Helias Crusaders will start Class 5 District 7 Tournament boys action today at Warrensburg High School. Fourth-seeded Jefferson City (11-14) and fifth-seeded Capital City (13-13) will meet at 5:30 p.m.
The Jefferson City Jays trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half, but they battled back to beat the Battle Spartans 64-62 in overtime Tuesday in a Central Missouri Activities Conference matchup at Fleming Fieldhouse.
On the first Senior Night in program history, the Capital City Cavaliers beat their crosstown-rival Jefferson City 77-72 for the first time. As the buzzer sounded, Cavalier students stormed the court and players threw their hands in the air in celebration. It was easy to tell how much this win meant to the Cavaliers.
