A captain and two correction officers were suspended last week for failing to intervene for at least 10 minutes after a man slit his throat with a razor, bleeding out in his cell.
Michael Nieves, 40, cut his throat at Rikers’ Anna M. Kross Center, said sources. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he lingered on life support until he died Tuesday. Correction Commissioner Louis Molina said he ordered three officers involved suspended immediately after a preliminary investigation.
