City staff overcomes Polar Vortex of 21 Michael Leamons Glen Rose City Administrator Last week’s siege of cold weather and power outages was one for the history books. According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, “As of 10:45 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 1,445 public water systems have reported disruptions in service due to the weather, many of them leading to Boil Water Notices. This is affecting nearly 14.4 million Texans in 190 counties.” Additionally, millions of Texans went without electricity. Amidst the crisis, city staff overcame multiple obstacles to keep water flowing to our customers. Prior to the arrival of the polar vortex, staff reviewed the city’s state of readiness. All of the outdoor lines at the city’s five well sites were insulated. Heat tape had been installed under the insulation on the smaller lines, which are more vulnerable to freezing. Electric heaters were installed in all of the water system’s buildings.

Monthly sales tax allocation continues upward trend Jay Hinton Glen Rose Reporter GLEN ROSE  Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributed $1.05 billion in local sales tax allocations to cities, counties, transit systems and special district taxing districts earlier this month, a 0.7% increase over February 2020. The city of Glen Rose received $168,437.23 in February, representing an increase of 41.51% over the previous year. “The number is phenomenal,” Glen Rose City Administrator Michael Leamons said. “I don t know how to explain it as it is so much higher than anything we have seen in the past two years. In fact, one has to go back to 2008 and 2009, the heydays of the natural gas boom, to find an amount that high.”

Glen Rose continues to see increase in state sales tax allocation By Jay Hinton Glen Rose Reporter GLEN ROSE For the first time since 2008, the city of Glen Rose topped $130,000 in sales tax allocation revenue when Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar released the figures earlier this month. The report shows the city brought in $130,155.64. The figure put the city at $1,190,862.01 in sales tax allocation revenue for 2020 with one month remaining, and that is 3.9% better than this time last year at $1,145,323.49. The November allocation also marks the seventh consecutive month in which the city has brought in $100,000 or more in sales tax.
