Town boss Kieran McKenna says Preston North End, who the Blues meet at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon, remain a difficult proposition, despite falling away after a promising start to the season.
Cardiff City chairman Peter Ridsdale has confirmed that Roy Keane was in contact with his club on Friday but says that Michael Chopra wasn’t the subject of his interest. Over the weekend
Town recorded their first double of the season with a form book-shredding 5-1 victory over Championship leaders West Ham at Portman Road. Michael Chopra opened the scoring in the third minute, Daryl Murphy adding the second in a frantic period before the break in which Jack Collison pulled one back for the Hammers and Lee Martin made it 3-1 from the spot. In the second half, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas netted the night’s best goal, a low 35-yard strike which beat Robert Green off his post, then added the fifth in the final moments.
Town boss Mick McCarthy believes League Two Portsmouth’s players will go into tonight’s FA Cup third round replay at Fratton Park expecting to beat the Blues having performed so well in the first game at Portman Road, which ended 2-2. McCarthy is set to field a young side and, as he did at Manchester United in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season, could even switch his entire XI.
Town have no new injuries ahead of Saturday’s game against Mick McCarthy’s hometown club Barnsley at Portman Road, but the match is in doubt due to safety concerns with snow having fallen overnight and with more expected this evening.
