Maritime affairs minister announces formation of committee to resolve port issues
LAHORE:
An advisory committee will be formed to resolve issues related to demurrage at ports and other related problems, announced Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi.
During his visit to the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Friday, he said the body would consist of representatives of business chambers, the maritime affairs ministry and relevant departments.
The minister voiced hope that the committee would play a vital role in resolving the issues faced by the business community at ports of the country.

The Kyrygz market is open to Pakistani businessmen and investment in it would be profitable, said Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan Erik Beishembiev on Saturday.
Addressing the business community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), he urged the businessmen to take advantage of this opportunity through joint ventures in pharmaceutical, rice agriculture, education, tourism and various other sectors.

Businessmen have voiced hope that agriculture will be the prime area of focus for policymakers as it can alone lift Pakistan’s economy to its peak.
“Pakistan is a sleeping technology giant and the day it wakes up, it will become a developed country,” remarked Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mian Tariq Misbah.
Talking to a group of businessmen and exporters on Friday, he added that the agriculture sector was considered the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, however, it lately faced various problems such as lack of appropriate technology, high input costs, unavailability of water and shrinking crop area.

Businessmen complain about poor cellular services
Urge telecom regulator to look into the matter

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Wednesday urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to look into the poor quality of services provided by cellular companies.
At a meeting with PTA Director Salman Baig, LCCI President Mian Tariq Misbah, Senior Vice President Nasir Hameed Khan and Vice President Tahir Manzoor Chaudhry said mobile phone had become an unavoidable tool for businesses but poor performance and bad services were adding to miseries of customers.
The LCCI office-bearers said businesses in Lahore were suffering because of poor or no mobile phone coverage in many areas.
