White nationalists groups attending a scheduled unite the right rally to protest the removal of a confederate statue clashes with counterprotesters including clergy and ant fascist groups and members of the black lives matter movement. The rally ended before it began when the governor and officials declared a state of emergency. Before 11 00 a. M. But clashes continued into the early afternoon. The most Serious Violence happened when a driver plowed a car into a crowd of peacefully marching counterprotesters. Killing one person and injuring 19 others. Several witnesses say they believe it was intentional. Police have arrested one person in connection with the crash. It is being investigated as a criminal homicide.
