He dreamed up an exhibition of alebrijes monumentales, larger-than-life, surreal creatures painted by Mexican artists at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

About 100 people attended the Tuesday opening of the "Alebrijes: Creatures of a Dream World" exhibit at the Gail Borden Library in Elgin. The exhibit features 20 papercraft creations from the imaginations five Mexican artists and will be on display until January 2024.
The Mexican Independence Day Celebration returns on Sept. 16-17 with a weekend of traditional and regional Mexican food, cultural music and dance, children s projects and games, and a 13-foot piñata filled with candy and toys to be dropped from a crane.
