A centuryold church in Downtown Des Moines faces demolition after City Council Members voted earlier this week not to intervene. The owners of the property want to demolish the building so they can sell it to a developer. But historic preservationists want to save it. Channel 13s Reid Chandler is following this story and joins us live from outside the Historic Building with more. This building at 811 crocker street used to be the home of burns United Methodist church, the oldest africanamerican congregation in the years, its sat empty, collecting dust and serving as a home for bats and squatters, while the church tried to sell it. Theyve finally got a buyer. But some people in town dont like the idea theyre selling.
