it was quite a sight to see it here. yeah, amazing to see that in broad daylight and not at night. gene, i want to go over to ron keller. he s in draper, utah. he s an ear witness, if you will, to that event. so, ron, we heard we saw some clips there. it sounded to me like a low rumble, almost like thunder. what did you hear? yes, we heard a loud noise in the sky, and we live in a two story house. and second story shook quite a bit. it felt as if someone had dropped a large piece of furniture. i checked upstairs. i checked the basement. no problem. and it didn t feel like an earthquake. having grown up in los angeles, i remember earthquakes, quite a few of them. but i also remember what sonic booms were when i was a kid. and some of the neighbors felt that it was a local construction site that was blowing off some dynamite. but later i found out it probably was this meteor hitting
destroyed and at least 2,000 more are now in danger of burning. four helicopters and 45 fire engines are battling this blaze. more than 85 million americans are under heat warnings or advisories today as soaring temperatures continue to wreak havoc across the country. the northeast and central u.s. are feeling the worst of it this weekend with temperatures hitting triple digits in some areas. meteorologist gene norman joins me now from the weather center. gene, i m glad you re inside handling this for us. it is just brutal almost across the country. exactly right, jim, and these longer lasting, long duration and more intense heat waves are certainly one of the fingerprints of climate change that we ve been tracking. again, as you mentioned, the middle of the country, the northeast, these are the places that are under alerts for today. and take a look, triple digit heat index right now in philadelphia, it was feeling like that within the last hour in d.c., but these temperatures in th
ohio river valley. there s another batch behind them that s moving through wisconsin, and earlier today, we had over 215,000 people without power in indiana, ohio, pennsylvania, and west virginia from those storms, and they will be moving towards you, at least towards the east coast over the next 24 to 48 hours. in fact, they get into the ohio river valley as we head into the day on sunday, and then on monday they make their way into the east coast, and that s when a big cooldown could be occurring, finally a bit of a relief from the heat. another hot day tomorrow, look by tuesday we re into the 80s. that will be a nice welcome change, jim. yeah, we just have to hang in there a little longer, and please take care of your elderly neighbors, relatives and those pets. little dogs out there, don t leave them outside in this sweltering heat. it s very dangerous for them. gene, thank you very much. it was a surreal moment of life imitating art, a tv news clip about the extreme heat wave in

u.s. state of georgia just outside of savannah. at least one person is dead there and officials said earlier people were trapped in their homes. there are more tornadoes throughout the southeastern u.s. this is damage caused by a tornado in johnson county, texas, just outside of fort worth. another man was killed further east near tyler, texas. meteorologist gene norman is monitoring all of this destruction for us. gene. that s right, max. when we came to you yesterday at the same time we were following the storm out of texas. we told you they would race across the southeast and that s exactly what happened. you can watch the line of storms. these red boxes. the over 80 tornado warnings issued by the national weather service throughout the day on tuesday and of course typically they go out and do a damage survey and rate the intensity.
