UNITY The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) issued Thursday new freshwater fish consumption advisories on seven waterbodies in Maine, including one in Waldo County. The new advisories come after testing of fish in these.
Fish were collected and tested at these various sites and were found to contain elevated levels of PFAS that the Maine CDC has deemed too high for regular consumption.
The advisories are based on new Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention consumption advice for different levels of PFAS, so-called 'forever chemicals.'
Health authorities issue advisory Thursday warning about consuming fish taken from fresh water in Fairfield, Oakland, Unity and Waterville. Fish taken from other waters also had elevated levels of the chemicals.
