Community colleges in Las Vegas and Tucumcari have signaled their interest in joining five others in the state to create an online database for sharing student and staff records and integrating administrative systems.

However, two seniors from New Underwood are joining a college rodeo team.

Cooper Filipek signed a letter of intent on Thursday morning to compete in rodeo at Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, New Mexico.
Filipek qualified for the national high school finals rodeo for the past two years.
In fact, he’s the defending state champion in the bareback riding after winning all three rounds at state last June.
“When I first started to sign for a college, I didn’t even think of anything down south,” said Cooper Filipek. “But this past summer, I met this coach at nationals at Guthrie, Oklahoma. He got a hold of me about two months after nationals around October. I went and visited him for the very first time during Halloween. Just like the place. Fell in love with it. Weather postponements, cancellations:
Due to inclement weather concerns, various public entities have altered plans for Tuesday;
• Clovis Municipal Schools has closed for today.
• Eastern New Mexico University has closed campus and canceled classes for Tuesday due to power outages.
• Curry County canceled its Tuesday commission meeting due to power outages, and County Manager Lance Pyle told The News county offices would close at noon. All items on the Tuesday agenda will be handled during the Feb. 25 meeting.
• Roosevelt County plans to close its offices at noon Tuesday. The County Clerk’s Office will remain open until 7 p.m. for voting on the local school bond elections.
