GOSHEN - An advisory panel charged with recommending ways to improve how Orange County sheriff s deputies interact with the public this week will hold the second of three online forums before issuing a reform plan mandated last year for every law enforcement agency in New York.
More than 500 departments in all must submit such plans to the state by April 1 or risk losing state funding, under an executive order Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed last June in the wake of nationwide protests after the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
The 16-member panel exploring the policies of Orange County Sheriff s Office held its first public forum last month and will hold its second this Thursday and third on Jan. 28.
