And a state of emergency has been declared. California is no stranger to wildfires but these are some of the worst on record. A combination of dry weather and strong winds are fuelling the ferocious pace of the flames. The bbcs dave lee is on the scene. Its the vast scale of these wildfires thats most alarming. More than 15 major blazes raging across 73,000 acres, creating an apocalyptic landscape. The conditions were perfect dry tinder, ignited with the help of 50 mph winds. When the flames came up, we came down here, and you could not see your hand in front of your face. Fire was coming up over the houses, about 100 feet, both sides of the street. Firefighters say containment has been virtually impossible, so they have been concentrating on getting people to safety. These people in this car fleeing to escape, shocked by the mass destruction. Township commissioner president philip ahr to come out to be transported to district court. The 66yearold ahr turned himself in this morning. Hes been under investigation for child pornography for a little while now. District attorney jack whelan says the commissioner had in his possession disturbing images depicting children as young as infants engaging in sex acts with adults. This comes on the heels of what happened four months ago when a jury found former radnor township commissioner bill sprinkler guilty of indecent assault of a person with mental disability. Sprinkler was convicted for inappropriately touching a 103yearold in her nursing home last year. For the pocket fire near geyserville. That order is for People Living north of highway 128 from geysers road to chockhill road. Cal fire says a staggering 90,000 people have been forced out of their homes by the massive fires burning across Northern California. At least 34 people have now been killed. And roughly 9, 000 firefighters are battling the fires. But there is some progress to report tonight. Two of the largest fires in sonoma and napa counties are now at least 25 contained. There are now 18 people confirmed dead in Sonoma County in the aftermath of the firestorm and sadly, that number is expected to rise. Today recovery teams poured through the rubble of a few neighborhoods that burned to the ground. Ktvus Tara Moriarty joins us from santa rosa where more human remains have been found.
