Scientists have encouraged the government to impose a travel ban to India amid growing concerns over the country s new variant and Boris Johnson has this morning cancelled a trip to the country due to the concerns.
After 77 cases of the mutant strain were detected in the UK recently, there are fears of an outbreak despite the fact that England s infection rates are currently at the lowest levels since autumn.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is scheduled to make a statement in the House of Commons later that is expected to address travel restrictions.
The 3.30pm statement will come as a new variant of the disease that originated in India has begun spreading in the UK.
A total of 77 cases of the mutant strain have been identified in the UK despite coronavirus infection levels across England currently the lowest they have been since autumn.

It was revealed yesterday that the coronavirus infection levels across England are currently the lowest they have been since autumn.
The news came as people were able to enjoy the first step to full freedom with the pubs and non-essential shops opening their doors on Monday.
Many people flocked to pubs on Saturday in town and city centres across Yorkshire.
