On Thursday, April 27th, Families Against Narcotics (FAN), a grassroots nonprofit organization based in Macomb County, will expand their programming to help more individuals and families in Michigan who have been affected by substance use disorder. In addition to launching a brand-new chapter that will cover Newaygo County, FAN will also be implementing their flagship Hope Not Handcuffs (HNH) program in police departments in the cities of Newaygo, White Cloud, Grant, and Fremont. The Center for Hope and Healing in White Cloud will also serve as a community partner for Hope Not Handcuffs.   FAN was founded in 2007 and is a community-based program for those seeking recovery from substance use disorder, those in recovery, family members affected by addiction, and community supporters. Their Hope Not Handcuffs initiative, launched in February of 2017, has compassionately connected more than 9,400 people statewide with the resources necessary to find recovery from addiction. &

Newaygo County Dad Charged In Connection With Explosive At High School

March 10, 2021 A high school in western Michigan has reopened, a day after a student accidentally detonated a homemade explosive in a classroom. Meanwhile, the boy’s father is in hot water after a search of his home in Newaygo County. David Saylor is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and manufacture or possession of a Molotov cocktail. At his arraignment Tuesday, Judge Melissa Dykman told Saylor he was a threat to Newaygo County. “It is disconcerting to the court the choices you’ve made as a parent that have put not only your own children at risk but the children of the community,” she said.

Father of student who brought device that exploded at school arrested on multiple charges Updated Mar 09, 2021; Facebook Share NEWAYGO COUNTY, MI The father of a 16-year-old Newaygo High School student who detonated an explosive at the school Monday was arraigned on multiple related charges. David Robert Daniel Saylor, a 33-year-old Brooks Township resident, was charged in Newaygo County District Court on Tuesday, March 9, with one felony count of manufacturing explosive devices and one misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor by manufacturing those devices with his son. The two are alleged to have made multiple devices between the months of January and March in Brooks Township. If convicted, Saylor could face up to four years in prison on the manufacturing charge. He is due back in court on March 18 for a probable cause conference and a preliminary hearing on March 25.
