NORRISTOWN â A virtual version of Corks & Forks on May 13 at 6 p.m. will tempt taste buds and hopefully raise funds to benefit The Senior Adult Activities Center of Montgomery Countyâs  two senior centers, inter-generational Art Center at Ambler and the all-important Meals on Wheels program.
âWeâre partnering with local restaurants and beverage vendors to provide chef and bartender demonstrations virtually for that evening,â noted Melissa Buckminster, director of marketing for Montco SAAC. âNormally, this is something where we provide tastings for everybody that attends the event, but with COVID rates being what they are in Montgomery County, that is not happening right now. But we are providing the virtual demonstrations and performances form musical guests and a silent auction that will be held virtually as well.â

The family of a Fair Acres Geritratic Center resident who died of pneumonia associated with COVID-19 in June has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the facility and Delaware County. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania by attorney Stephen J. Pokiniewski on behalf of Christopher Beaty Jr. and Nichole Garcia, alleges the county failed to design or enact policies to limit the spread of the virus in the county-run facility, leading to the death of 63-year-old Christopher Beaty Sr. after he was exposed to COVID-19 through his roommate. âThe matter has been referred to our insurance company for review,â said county Solicitor Bill Martin. âThe county takes any such allegations very seriously and will review the facts to make sure that Fair Acres continues

For some organizations, resistance came from some unexpected sources as well.
âOur fundraising was very much affected by the pandemic ⦠and by the Post Office,â said Michele Moll, executive director of King of Prussia-based RSVP. âWe had our annual appeal mailed out in November and it never got mailed. We brought it to the Post Office and it never got mailed. Weâre finding out that a few people are starting to get it now. So between November and February we never even had our year-end appeal go out, so that was huge for us, not being able to get individual gifts. The Post Office said theyâd been hit hard by COVID and that with it being a nonprofit rate they had no obligation to send it out in any timely fashion, it was just really disappointing.â
