Julius Sandhu may have been hoping to saddle-up Lofty Star in last Saturday’s Australian Guineas but his trainer is hoping Wednesday’s $50,000 Thoroughbred Club Handicap (1600m) at Ladbrokes Park Lakeside is a suitable Plan B.
Lofty Star was only emergency in last Saturday’s Group 1 at Flemington but failed to gain a start.
“He was cherry ripe and spot on to go last Saturday if he had have got a run,” Sandhu expressed.
“He would have presented looking a million dollars and that will again be the case on Wednesday.
“We went in with our eyes open knowing the risk he might not get a start in a Group 1 so we can’t be too disappointed.”

Craig Newitt took the Enver Jusufovic-trained Miss Albania ($4.80 favourite) to the lead from the outside barrier in the Iris O Farrell Handicap (1100m), for fillies and mares at benchmark 70 level, and was never headed, winning by three-quarters of a length. She crossed (to the lead) hard on the bridle, straightened up and I still had a lapful (to spare), Newitt said.
“When I went through her gears she still had her ears pricked and I was holding onto her a little bit longer - she’s pretty exciting.
