DoE fines 15 businesses Tk 8.51 lakh

The Department of Environment (DoE) Chattogram region fined 15 businesses Tk 8.51 lakh for violating the environment conservation act.
The fine was imposed on them after a hearing at DoE Khulsi office today.
Mohammad Moazzom Hossain director of DoE Chattogram region told The Daily Star that Mehrin Ship Recycling at Sitakunda was fined Tk one lakh for violation of conditions stipulated on the clearance certificate.
Two brick kilns one from Ramu upazila and another from Bashkhali upazila were fined a total of Tk 4,50,000 lakh while a fish landing centre adjacent to Karnaphuli river was fined Tk one lakh for running their operation without DoE clearance, he added.
