The organizers of the Cherry Blossom Festival in Meghalaya have announced that the first of the three-day event has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression over east central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression approximately 600 km north-northwest of Port Blair, and it will deepen into a Cyclonic Storm by this morning (24th May) and further deepen into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours.
