LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, joined Megan Conway to discuss vaccine progress, the new police chief, and the proposed Lincoln city budget.
Recently Lancaster county has reached 70% for adults 18 and older who have received at least one dose of the vaccine, but the aim is still to hit 75%.
“We have ambitious goals, and we’re so proud of our community. So many people have stepped up to roll up their sleeves, and help protect themselves, and their families, their loved ones, and of course the entire community,” said Gaylor Baird.

Three car crash sends one to hospital
Officers say a black pick-up hit at least two parked cars, hit a home and flipped on its roof.

It happened around 8 p.m. near 10th and New Hampshire streets.
Officers say a black pick-up hit at least two parked cars before smashing into a home’s porch and flipping onto its roof. The driver of that pick-up was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Scanner reports say the pick-up was being removed from the scene and that there was no structural damage to the home.
However, Lincoln Fire and Rescue say Building and Safety are scheduled to inspect the integrity of the porch today.

Andy Hoffman dies from brain cancer
Last week, Andy s wife said he had contracted Covid-19, which delayed some of his chemotherapy treatements.

Andy Hoffman, co-founder of Team Jack, passed away this morning after battling brain cancer. He was diagnosed in July of 2020.
His son Jack, who also battled brain cancer, made national news, running for a touchdown in the Huskers’ Spring Game in 2013. The family made it a priority to raise money and awareness for pediatric brain cancer.
Last week, Andy’s wife Briana said he had contracted Covid-19, which delayed some of his chemotherapy treatments.

We’ve heard from hundreds of viewers that their streets still haven’t been plowed or that they are still impassable. We asked Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird for her opinion on how the city’s snow removal is going and her response to residents’ complaints.
Are you satisfied with the status of the street conditions?
“No mayor worth her salt is ever satisfied with street conditions and is constantly looking for ways to improve them. The snowfall we received Monday and early Tuesday was the second largest ever recorded in Lincoln and is giving us plenty of opportunities to do just that.
