Pandemonium at PIMS
January 16, 2021
Islamabad : Pandemonium broke loose at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) here Friday as employees protesting against the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Ordinance occupied the Administration Block and chased the former Executive Director Dr. Anser Maxood out of the hospital premises, preventing him from taking charge as the new MTI-appointed Medical Director (MD).
When the MD, who retired from the post of ED a day earlier, made his first attempt to enter the hospital premises, he was disallowed and forced to leave. The PIMS protestors then gathered in the front lawn, chanting slogans and making hateful speeches against both MTI and Dr. Anser.

Islamabad : The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Executive Director Dr. Ansar Maxood, who retired from service Thursday only to reassume charge as the hospital’s new Director under the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Ordinance, will face stiff resistance today (Friday) from protesting employees of PIMS, who are determined not to allow the ‘traitor ED’ to enter the hospital premises, leave alone take charge of office.
The employees of PIMS observed Salvation Day on Thursday to ‘celebrate’ the exit of the sitting ED who, they believe, ‘sold PIMS for his personal interests.’ The protestors publicly vowed not to allow him to sit in the ED’s office, where he is set to assume charge as Director under MTI. “We will celebrate Thanksgiving Day tomorrow (Friday),” the Federal Grand Health Alliance’s Chairman Dr. Asfandyar stated. PIMS withdraws all services; VIP patients be turned down too
Islamabad
January 14, 2021
Islamabad : No VIP patients will be treated at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) with effect from today (Thursday). All services, except those involving extreme emergency and Covid-19 case management, will also stand withdrawn. No further negotiations will be held with the government. The withdrawal of the Medical Teaching Institutions (MTI) Ordinance is now the only way forward.
The above decisions were taken Wednesday at the executive council meeting of the Federal Grand Health Alliances (FGHA), which finds itself constrained to take drastic measures in the wake of the government’s inability to offer a practical and mutually agreeable formula for revision of a legislation that robs PIMS employees of their civil servant status and rights, monetizes medical treatment while virtually privatizing the hospital.
