The city administration is facing dueling investigations into claims by two department heads that the mayor and her staff have not only created a toxic work environment, but neglected financial obligations to one of its employees.
A cease and desist order was sent by former city solicitor Mark Rumley to Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn, Assistant City Solicitor Kim Scanlon and Director of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion Neil Osborne in early June, demanding city officials stop harassing behavior towards the city s chief financial officer/auditor/finance director Aleesha Nunley Benjamin.
The order also demanded Michael Durham, the city’s director of the Office of Veteran’s Affairs, be compensated for work done to clear out a backlog of contested parking tickets after becoming the city s hearing officer in 2020.

MEDFORD, MA Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn announced her campaign for re-election at a socially distanced event for supporters Thursday. Lungo-Koehn addressed supporters over Zoom and was joined by representatives from the business, education and activist communities, who spoke to the mayor s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and social issues.
Lungo-Koehn, a longtime city councilor, was elected mayor in November 2019 and assumed office as the pandemic hit Massachusetts.
