A R26.5m infrastructure project that will benefit 150 informal traders was officially launched at eMaXesibeni on Friday. Finance, economic development, environmental affairs and tourism MEC Mlungisi Mvoko said 84 informal traders had already been allocated trading space at the new eMaXesibeni Hawkers Centre.
Eastern Cape finance MEC Mlungisi Mvoko has expressed concern about municipalities that fail to timeously spend disaster funds released to them by the national government. The Eastern Cape housing department has summarily dismissed its chief financial officer (CFO) after a disciplinary inquiry found Ouma Gaehumelwe Diutlwileng guilty on a litany of charges which included gross dishonesty, insubordination and negligence. The department accused Diutlwileng, employed in the post from March 1 2019, of undertaking remunerative work for other government entities outside housing, without first obtaining the permission of the housing head of department.
