PAF identifies victims in Bohol air mishap

Published April 28, 2021, 11:34 AM The Philippine Air Force (PAF) identified on Tuesday night, April 27, three of the four victims aboard a military chopper that crash landed into the sea in Getafe, Bohol while on a maintenance flight. PAF spokesperson Lt. Col. Maynard Mariano said the lone fatality was Capt. Aurelius Olano, pilot-in-command of the crashed McDonnel Douglas 520-MG “Defender” No. 410 attack helicopter. He was a resident of Candijay, Bohol. Meanwhile, the two maintenance crew members were Airmen 1st Class (A1C) Rex Anapio and Bonn Arasola. The identity of the co-pilot, a 27-year-old woman with a rank of 1st Lieutenant, was withheld by Mariano pending notification of her parents who have both medical condition.

PAF combat chopper crashes in Bohol

Published April 27, 2021, 1:10 PM A Philippine Air Force (PAF) attack helicopter crashed during a maintenance flight in Getafe, Bohol on Tuesday morning, April 27. PAF spokesman Lt. Col. Maynard Mariano said a McDonnel Douglas MG-520 “Defender” combat chopper went down on the shorelines of Gestafe town around 9:30 a.m. He said validation is still being done on the number of casualties. “We can confirm that we have a downed aircraft in the vicinity of Bohol,” Mariano said. The cause of the crash was already being investigated by the authorities as of this writing. However, Mariano said the chopper took off from a PAF military base in Mactan Island and was conducting a periodic test flight when it crashed into the shore.

Lt. Col. Maynard Mariano, PAF spokesperson, said a McDonnel Douglas 520-MG “Defender” combat chopper from the 15th Strike Wing went down on the shorelines of Gestafe town around 9:30 a.m. “We can confirm that we have a downed aircraft in the vicinity of Bohol,” Mariano said. Mariano said the pilot did not survive the crash after he chose to stay inside the chopper as it crashed while the survivors managed to jump into the sea before the impact.
