Wildfires in Arizona continued to spring up throughout the map this week.
The Spur Fire, which started on Thursday in Bagdad about two hours northwest of Phoenix, destroyed 13 homes and burned 150 acres, was 90% contained as of Sunday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. The department then turned over fire operations back to the local district.
The department also announced that the Courthouse Fire burning southwest of Tonopah had grown to the size of 700 acres and had knocked out power for 73 homes as of Sunday morning. The department announced at 3:40 p.m. that crews stopped forward progress of the fire, leaving it at 1,072 acres.
The McDonald Tank wildfire in eastern Arizona has grown to more than 3,500 acres in about six days.The fire started last Sunday afternoon and has almost doubled in size during the past day.Despite this growth, fire spokesman Steve Johnson is optimistic that firefighters can slow the fire from the air.
