folks who were keeping the gavel from kevin mccarthy, and made it about 15 rounds to get it, getting some plum assignments. what did they get? well, that s right, katy and some of these folks ended up with new assignments, some back on the prestigious committees they already sat, making it to the appropriations committee, byron donalds, financial services or andy bigs, back on judiciary, or lauren boebert now on oversight, and i m trying to remember the other ones on your graphic so you don t, i don t leave you hanging. gosar, scott perry. gosar on oversight and scott perry on foreign affairs. i think we learned two things basically. number one, mccarthy didn t punish anyone who voted against him, everyone who is back on the committees on which they previously sat or upgraded committees to some place where they wanted to be. and that s part of, folks who opposed him and as you pointed
well, now, house speaker kevin mccarthy said he always had some doubt about george santos resume. listen. when were you first made aware about some of the allegations around santos? i always had a few questions about it. always had a few questions about it. if that is true, he did not share any of those questions or concerns right after election day when he tweeted this. george santos will be a great leader and conservative voice for the people. closed quote. mccarthy didn t raise any objections when then next week when he hailed santos jewish heritage in another claim that turned out to be a lie. here was that moment. i really want to talk about who is the makeup of this new majority. you heard from some already. max miller in ohio, george santos in new york, and you had david custoff from tennessee get
these are momentous things. to have the majority take someone off a committee because they are not a member of the party. if mccarthy didn t do that a lot of people would be upset with him. they did it to our party. there is good reason. when you have swalwell this relationship with fang-fang. she worked in his campaign and personally involved with him. and schiff is lying through his teeth. this guy is perjurying himself in front of the american people. he doesn t belong on a committee. and ilhan omar has shown how here her anti-semitism. i want to congratulate mccarthy on the fact there is the impeachment of mayorkas.
or 20 oppositionists and mccarthy didn t agree to a meeting in person. he agreed to a call. that s what you heard kaitlan talking to the congressman about, and they haven t announced the call yet. i think the natives are getting restless in the sense they re beginning to say, you know, they have real lives. and they re doing this over and over and over again. 11 votes they re in today, and some of them are getting frustrated. if he gives away too much, he stands to lose. he could lose the support that he has from the 200 or so people who are already voting for him. absolutely. just a balancing act he s got to give away the store but not in such a way that his 200 supporters say no, that s enough. and then there s another question, which is of course, if he drops out and let s say steve scalise, who many think of as the number two would move up, does he have to abide by the deal mccarthy made or can he
republican brand. a few things strike you. we are exactly this morning where we were when we sat here yesterday morning at 6:00 a.m., which is nowhere. just three more votes, three more times, kevin mccarthy didn t clear the 218 hurdle. he s negotiating behind the scenes: it also strikes you now how spilling out into public is the disdain and the contempt that some members of the republican caucus have for these 20 others and apparently have had for some time. you have someone like congressman dan crenshaw of texas calling them losers and enemies and clowns and everything else and saying they are making us look bad in public, and then as mika referred to earlier, the influence of donald trump is just not there. it s background noise at this point. he s putting out statements on his down market social media site trying to exert some influence. you have people like lauren boebert going on and saying, yes, he s my favorite president but i don t care what he says right now, i m not votin
