On May 24, 2021, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu posted a picture showing some men with guns in broad daylight on his Twitter page.
According to Kanu, the gunmen were members of the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da wah wa l-Jihād.
