Palm Coast makes history by landing Jacksonville University

Chamber president In case you missed it, Tuesday, Dec. 15, was a historic day for the citizens of Palm Coast and Flagler County. With no public opposition to the proposal from Jacksonville University to expand their reach by adding a Palm Coast campus in Town Center, the Palm Coast City Council approved investing a total of $2.5 million to make the vision a reality. Welcoming Jacksonville University to Palm Coast was yet another step in the right direction for our region. Here’s why: 1. Cementing MedNex’s future and supporting Town Center Under Mayor Milissa Holland’s leadership, with the support of Sen. Travis Hutson and Rep. Paul Renner, Palm Coast has effectively created a higher education trifecta in Flagler County. Along with Daytona State College, we will soon enjoy the benefits of a physical presence by the University of North Florida and now Jacksonville University in Palm Coast. Palm Coast City officials approve Palm Coast Connect renewal 4-1 [The Daytona Beach News-Journal] PALM COAST City Council members Tuesday voted 4-1 to renew the nearly $176,000 licensing agreement for Palm Coast Connect, a 311 citizen engagement platform. Councilman Ed Danko was the lone dissenting vote. The platform was approved in 2018 as way to streamline communication between the city and residents. It allows residents to access virtual town hall meetings, the business resource center and much more. According to city officials, Palm Coast Connect has allowed for a more streamlined engagement between city staff and residents. Residents can access virtual town hall meetings and the business resource center; receive email notifications, alerts and public safety updates; as well as access virtual recreation programs and a list of other resources. Cell Tower Proposal at Palm Harbor Golf Club Delayed After Intense Opposition and Questions of Location

A group opposed to locating a 150-foot cell tower on the Palm Harbor Golf Club grounds produced a map showing the tower “moving” from an original location near the Green Lion restaurant to a different location. The Palm Coast City Council this morning tabled until January 19 a controversial proposal–the only controversial proposal among five like it in two years–to locate a 150-foot cell tower on the grounds of the city’s Palm Harbor Golf Club.  The decision only seemed straight-forward. But it followed almost an hour of tense, at times embittered public comment and interactions with Mayor Milissa Holland, who frequently struggled to keep the discussion narrowly focused on issues defined by the city rather than on tower-related issues as the public understands them. That only deepened tensions and created the impression that the mayor was attempting to  control residents’ perspectives.
