After 19 years of service as Chief of the Baton Rouge Fire Department, Ed Smith has announced his retirement. Chief Smith’s last day of duty will be May 17, according to the mayor’s office.
The following letter is from BRFD Cheif Edwin Smith:
“As I announce my retirement from the Baton Rouge Fire Department first I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to serve as Fire Chief. He has given me the strength to carry out my duties as chief. More importantly he provided his healing power that has allowed me to be alive today to write this thank you letter. To the many doctors, nurses, and staff at the Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute that provided me with the most amazing care during my illness. LOCK HAVEN It’s a relatively light primary election ballot in Clinton County with only two county row offices on the ballot and four seats on the Keystone Central School Board open.
But there are a few contested races with some names from the past showing their faces in municipalities that may bring out a heavier than expected voter turnout, especially in those regions.
The primary election is Tuesday, May 18, and basically is just for registered Republicans and registered Democrats who may vote only on their party’s ballot to move candidates into the November 2 General Election, when the Republicans and Democrats can vote for candidates of any party.

Residents of St. Paul s Rondo neighborhood, which was torn apart when Interstate 94 was built in the 1960s, are continuing their years-long push to reconnect the predominantly Black neighborhood and right a wrong.
To right this wrong, Reconnect Rondo, which has been working with the Urban Land Institute, is pushing for a 12-21 acre land bridge that would cap I-94 between Lexington Parkway and Dale Street in St. Paul, stretching between 2,600-3,200 linear feet.
