(OLNEY) With tomorrow, Friday, April 30th, being proclaimed as Arbor Day in Olney by Mayor Mark Lambird, Ameren Illinois is again teaming up with the City of Olney to promote the importance of planting trees for our future generations. Through an Arbor Day Grant from Ameren, the Olney Tree Board this year provided Richland County fourth graders with White Pine tree seedlings for them to plant with family and friends, plus local youth also received coloring books, color-change pencils, and tree planting guides. In fact, the students and their planting partners are encouraged to post photos of their tree planting online by using hashtags : #AmerenIllinois, #OlneyIL, or #ArborDay2021. The City of Olney Tree Board also wants to encourage all citizens to plant trees from any of Olney’s local nurseries and/or greenery vendors. Christmas light display in Olney sees record turnout during pandemic
The display has made $31,000 in donations so far.

OLNEY, Ill. (WTHI) - Every year folks drive their cars through the Olney city park. They re there to see a tradition over three decades old.
Olney Mayor Mark Lambird explains, It s something that for a lot of people in Olney or who grew up here and have roots here I think it s something that gives a little comfort in this time when everything is turned upside down. There s still some things that will remain the same.
