'One-stop shop' to pick your passion at volunteer expo

Premium Content Subscriber only Mackay residents can poke around for their new passion in a one-stop shop at the Mackay Volunteers Expo on Sunday. More than 50 stalls will be set up at the Big Shed Pavilion at Mackay Showgrounds as organisations showcase their work and find new recruits. The Mackay Regional Council organised event was developed to encourage local volunteering opportunities and provide community groups with promotion and exposure while celebrating the work of existing volunteers. Deputy Mayor Karen May, a proud volunteer in her own right, was excited to have an opportunity to help locals to find their passion.

Mackay's Maltese heritage celebrated in monuments

Premium Content Subscriber only Mackay’s Maltese heritage will be celebrated through the construction and installation of three life-size bronze statues in the city. The statues will be positioned on the corner of Wood and Victoria Street, commonly known as ‘Maltese Corner’. The proposal for the statues was put to council on Wednesday, with councillors unanimously voting for the project to go ahead.
