Subscriber only Mackay residents can poke around for their new passion in a one-stop shop at the Mackay Volunteers Expo on Sunday. More than 50 stalls will be set up at the Big Shed Pavilion at Mackay Showgrounds as organisations showcase their work and find new recruits. The Mackay Regional Council organised event was developed to encourage local volunteering opportunities and provide community groups with promotion and exposure while celebrating the work of existing volunteers. Deputy Mayor Karen May, a proud volunteer in her own right, was excited to have an opportunity to help locals to find their passion.

A new McDonald’s has been approved for Andergrove with only a few minor tweaks to original plans lodged with the council.
The family restaurant will be built within the new Coles Supermarket precinct in Oak Street in Andergrove.
Initially proposed as a 24/7 restaurant designed to service the Andergrove, Beaconsfield and Slade Point areas, the restaurant revised its hours to 5am to midnight seven days a week.
The new restaurant will be the fourth McDonald’s for the proposed owner and operator Nikki Ramsey.
Mrs Ramsey said the proposal provided an initial estimate of economic investment in excess of $1.5 million and generated 100 jobs for local contractors.
