Laguna Beach reviewing $1 million plan to fix illegal parking, graffiti removal, trash pick-up and more

The Laguna Beach City Council will consider a plan Tuesday to annually invest $1 million from new public parking revenue to blunt the impacts of visitors using beaches, parks, and trails.
Among the hot issues slated for funding are community policing, trash pick-up, graffiti removal, parking enforcement, water bottle refilling stations, and marine safety services, City Manager John Pietig said Tuesday during a Zoom meeting hosted by the Laguna Canyon Conservancy.

Over several decades, local journalist Barbara Diamond connected the people of Laguna Beach through her writing.
Diamond died in her home on Diamond Street on Feb. 10 at the age of 88.
The recurring themes that have emerged since Diamond’s passing indicate how many lives she touched in the community. “Irreplaceable,” “one-of-a-kind,” and “Laguna Beach icon” are just some of the terms used to characterize what she meant to Laguna Beach.

The Top of the World Neighborhood Association (TOWNA) will hold its annual “Meet the Mayor” reception on Feb. 21 from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. via Zoom.
Neighbors will be able to hear Mayor Bob Whalen via Zoom and his answers to the questions from the TOWNA Board.
The TOWNA Board has lobbied the City for an increased police presence in the Top of the World neighborhood concerned as social media continues to attract more visitors, aggravating the problems. Other discussion topics include improved cameras at Carolyn Wood View Knoll and elsewhere, adding police patrols during the high usage times of day and evenings, and wildfire concerns.
