(ABC 6 News) - Emergency crews responded to East Side Lake Park in Austin Thursday night around 10:30 after a report that someone could hear screaming coming from the park area but was not able to see anyone.
Austin Police Chief David McKichan said crews were able to determine the screams were coming from an open part of the lake. The APD said the officer was able to briefly locate the woman in the water but there was not a safe way to get to her. Additional crews were called in to help.
APD officers at the scene used spotlights, thermal imaging cameras and binoculars to keep the woman visible. A firefighter with the Austin Fire Department geared up and started making their way to the woman. The APD said the firefighter was able to locate the woman, at the time of her rescue she had begun to submerge and was just visible enough to be found.
