Tributes paid to Mayo teenager who died after tragic single-vehicle crash

TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenager who lost his life in a single vehicle crash outside Castlebar on Saturday night.

The driver - who died early on Sunday morning in hospital - has been named locally as David McHale.
One of the male passengers, also in his teens, was left in a serious condition at Mayo General Hospital, while another male passenger also received treatment for his injuries. TERRIBLE TRAGEDY
McHale, who hailed from the wesr Mayo village of Mulranny, was a fifth-year-student in Rice College Westport.
They are also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage from the area between 11.40pm and midnight.

The crash was the second fatal road incident in less than a week in the Castlebar area.
Last Wednesday, Denis Prosvirnevs, who was originally from Russia, was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Humbert Way area of the town about 11.50pm.
A man in his 30s was arrested on Saturday in relation to the collision and questioned at Castlebar garda station.

A MAN who was arrested and held for questioning in connection with a fatal hit and run collision in Castlebar, Co Mayo has been released without charge.

He died in hospital in the early hours of Thursday.
On Friday night, a man in his 30’s was arrested in Castlebar and held for questioning under Section 4 the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
He was released from custody last night Saturday.
