Jonesville man set for pretrial in stabbing case

HILLSDALE A Jonesville man, arrested Jan. 16 in Hillsdale in connection with a home invasion and stabbing, appeared for a criminal pretrial conference Monday in 1st Judicial Circuit Court.
The attorney for 22-year-old Brent Jacob Risner, David Goldstein, requested the hearing be adjourned until later in June to allow him time to learn more about another case in 2B District Court, where Risner is charged with possessing methamphetamine in November 2020.
Judge Sara S. Lisznyai adjourned the matters to 1 p.m. June 28, with no objections from the Hillsdale County prosecutor’s office.

HILLSDALE A Jonesville man, arrested Jan. 16 in the city of Hillsdale in connection with a home invasion and stabbing on that day, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of possessing methamphetamine in November 2020.
Brent Jacob Risner, 22, was in 2B District Court Wednesday for pretrial hearings on two counts of domestic violence for assaults that occurred in jail since his arrest when Judge Megan Stiverson arraigned him on the Nov. 24, 2020 possession of methamphetamine violation.
Risner is still pending trial in the 1st Judicial Circuit Court on allegations of assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon for the Jan. 16 incident.

HILLSDALE A Jonesville man arrested Jan. 16 in the city of Hillsdale in connection with a stabbing earlier that day has hired a different attorney prompting an adjournment in a criminal pretrial conference.
Brent Jacob Risner, 22, was previously set for trial on charges of assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion and carrying a concealed weapon, but changed private attorneys prompting a new criminal pretrial conference in the matters.
That new hearing is tentatively scheduled for 1 p.m. June 7 in the 1st Judicial Circuit Court.
One of his co-defendants, 20-year-old Brock Ian Adams, charged with similar crimes, pleaded guilty to lesser crimes of aggravated assault and entry without permission, both misdemeanors, and possession of methamphetamine in a plea deal earlier this year.
