Today your work is cut out for you as you choose which authors to visit during this day that offers dozens of announce writers to established astounding books in the last year. Speakers at least since the 1940s are known for at least producing one major work of legislation. But certainly at the top of that list id have to say would be sam rayburn. Host whats the speakers normal interaction with the senate . Guest with the senate . I wouldnt say that the speaker has a normal interaction with the senate. It varies by who the speaker is, it varies by which party is in control of the house and which partys in control of the senate, and it varies on the personal or the personalities of the speaker and the Senate Leadership. Theres an expectation that speakers need to have an open line of communication with the leadership in the senate because you cant get any legislation enacted without the senates approval. And so to that respect, there is some kind of communication or relationship. But the degree of closeness that there is between, say, the speaker and the senate or Senate Leaders is going to vary tremendously by who the individual speaker is and who the leaders

At the National Book event, the final day of the oneday festival was a presentation by scott berg about this book about charles wilson. He is back now. He was promoting his book of maxwell perkins. We have had a great friendship every since. He is the author of many books and now this biography of Woodrow Wilson. At the National Book festival in 2001, the final event of what was then a oneday festival was a presentation by scott curt in the Madison Building about his extraordinary biography of charles lindbergh. Scott is back with us today and it is both a pleasure and honor to introduce him for the second time at this festival. Ive known scott for 35 years. He came to miami where i was then living in 1978, promoting his wonderful biography of maxwell perkins. I adjust the year before published one of max perkins authors and so scott and i struck up a friendship that is persistent, although i must say a great physical distance ever since. You know scott is the author of maxwell perkins, is the author of lindbergh, as the author of a wonderful memoir of katharine hepburn. And

Mine is in a Community Affairs at wells fargo for the midatlantic region. And so want to be here representing wells fargo is both an avid reader myself. I really dont remember a time in my life when i wasnt an avid reader. I just loved reading. I grew up in a very small town in North Carolina and had the benefit of the library account be an adjacent to backyard. But at the library of congress obviously, but its a wonderful asset to the community. Around the corner to parents to pick out books and am feeling very, very grown up when i got to go by myself to check out books myself. Ive attended here today come you must all know books can take you to foreign lands and give you a different perspective about your neighborhood. They can introduce you to people that came generations before and connect people in real time. My favorite incident happened to me when i
