We can all admit that 2020 was a real zinger. Plans were changed. Lifestyles were altered. Our pastimes – professional or personal – shifted too. Every last one of ’em. Surfing’s competitive realm had a rough go. The World Surf League was able to get the Pipeline Masters and Maui Pro in, which was a blessing. But other than that it was a year devoid of webcasts to distract our minds from office work or inspire us to go surf and get off our phones.
Thankfully, there’s John John Florence, who capped off 2020 right: spending lots of time in the water with family. Mr. Florence and Erik Knutson, his longtime production partner, deployed a high-end camera and produced a high-end edit to fill the competitive void starring JJF and his high-performance-surfing siblings who make being in the ocean look really fun. A New Year’s reminder that whatever mundane task you’re doing can wait. Go get in the water.
