WILLIAMSPORT The Lycoming County district attorney says he hopes the 90- to 180-year sentence handed down to a child rapist serves as a significant deterrent to others.
District Attorney Ryan C. Gardner was talking about the sentence that county Judge Marc F. Lovecchio imposed Wednesday on Matthew W. Sauter, 42, of the Montoursville area.
The judge had found Sauter guilty in a November non-jury trial on all 78 counts against him that included rape, statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
The encounters began in January 2014 when the female victim was 12 and continued until September 2016 in Souter’s home and one in Williamsport.
