West baltimore may be described as a war zone after 12 hours of rioting. New fires this morning. New stores looted. Overnight, Police Officers under attack from rioters. It will all be over. Let me set the scene. We are on northwest avenue. You can look up the street and see state police out in riot gear. Armored cars on the streets. All of the debris from the violence that happened yesterday. Yesterday, this was a city under siege. The Police Commissioner saying at one point they were out numbered and outflanked. Groups of rioters looted a cvs. They went to a Check Cashing store and liquor store. They threw bottles at police for hours. Breaking off in smaller groups. Fire crews were challenged as they were trying to put out fires after rioters came out and cut their hoses. The Baltimore Mayor stephanie rawlingsblake speaking out. Why was the National Guard not called out sooner. She answered that. We use best practices to weigh how the officers are trained and to not escalate.
