A prolific illustrator, he was most closely associated with the image that made the “Jaws” paperback a runaway best seller, and the blockbuster film it inspired an enduring classic.
Roger Kastel painted the image for the cover of the paperback edition of the 1974 Peter Benchley novel on which the 1975 blockbuster film, directed by Steven Spielberg, was based.
The award winning artist, whose works included over 1,000 illustrations for paperback novels and movie posters, including “The Empire Strikes Back,” retired to Milford in 2013. He died Nov. 8, his family announced on his website.
